Warehouse Manager/Operations

description Due to the ongoing successes of this small social enterprise, an exciting opportunity has arisen for an interim Operations Manager. The business being run is a recycling scheme, run from a warehouse in East London. The warehouse scraps, recycles and re-sells several thousand tons of office furniture each year. This prevents most of it going into land-fill sites and puts it into the hands of local charities, schools and voluntary organisations. Since the project has been launched it has been incredibly successful from the start. This project provides second level employment to homeless and socially excluded individuals. In the same 32,000 sq. ft. warehouse, there is another small social enterprise which is a smaller catalogue delivery company distributing fair trade and UK manufactured goods. This has been set up to provide entry level employment for homeless people. People who are employed through either project may have limited skills requiring support to help them focus and realise their potential. Receiving this support will enable them to move on in to the wider job market, having been and some unemployed and / or homeless for some time. Some will have come from the organisations supported housing accommodation. Purpose of the Job As a result of the successes of the project to date, an opportunity has arisen for someone to join the team on an interim basis. The key purpose of this role is to merge the two smaller social enterprises and set them up to run as effectively and efficiently as possible. This will include reviewing all procedures currently being used and establishing efficient systems to run the growing businesses by. As part of this role, you will also be expected to establish and initiate plans around business development; manage the financial function across the projects; handle and nurture all partnerships and sales/marketing contracts; staff management. This is an excellent opportunity for someone to assist and organisation through a time of change and help them to lay solid foundations for their future. The role will be reviewed at the end of the 6 months and recruited for permanently. This will be open to the person within the interim role. A variety of backgrounds would be considered, including setting up or running your own business, a background in managing a warehouse/retail stockroom or facitlities management.
