Our client are a well established company and a growing, highly profitable business. They manufacture both branded and private label foods from a clean and modern factory in Manchester. They now seek to recruit an Engineer with supervisory experience to manage a team of six engineers on an alternate 6-2, 2-10, shift pattern Monday-Friday. Although a medium sized business, this company is ambitious and they expect the jobholder to be able to grow in tandem with their development, taking on additional responsibility in the medium term. The Engineering Supervisor recruited must also be flexible as it is expected they will work one weekend in three, as paid overtime. It is expected that they will also have experience of working within a high-speed packaging or bottling environment. The focus of the role will be on the ‘upskilling’ of the engineering team (electrical and mechanical) as well as implementing improved systems such as the PPM system and introducing better working practices with regard to changeovers. Experience of applying SMED principles would be useful experience. The supervisor needs to be a strong manager and previous experience of ‘managing change’ would also be beneficial. The engineering function is manned by long serving staff and is ran in a traditional manner. It will therefore be the job of the Engineering Supervisor to break away from how things have been traditionally done, and implement new improved systems and procedures. This will include breaking down barriers and demarcation between engineering and production.
