description Systems Engineer to design and on-site commission railway communications systems. Tasks include design and implement system solutions that meet customer requirements; provide technical support to Sales and Marketing; focus design efforts on innovation and cost minimisation; specify the systems specification to the manufacturing organisation; produce project documentation and reports; support field personnel. You MUST have BTEC / HNC or equivalent in Electrical / Electronic Engineering; 5 years experience in system manufacturing / installation and commissioning within a communications environment. Knowledge of Railway standards and practices would be advantageous. The systems will have values between GBP300 - GBP500k. Please note. This is not a board level design role and applicants with only these skills will not be considered. This role is for practical person happy to work at times in a dirty, cold and wet train depot, crawl under trains, etc.. This role is Permanent and paying iro GBP32k.

They urgently require a senior test engineer to work on software releases from integration to system test - this will include protocol conformance and type approval testing. You will also need to liaise with engineers carrying out testing on EMC, environmental, over-the-air trials and certification. You will be involved in the definition of test plans, methodologies, requirements and procedures. Your role will include the specification, procurement, commissioning and maintenance of test benches and related equipment. A key responsibility will be the writing of scripts and the production of test vectors and automation software. You will also be involved in regression and integration testing, field support / maintenance and support, configuration control and bug database tracking & reporting. To be considered for this role you are likely to have a degree level qualification in electronic engineering or a related area, followed by 3 or more years experience in cellular or satellite telecoms. You must have a good system level understanding of wireless comms from layer 1 up to the protocol layers, and be able to specify and use lab test equipment for standard parameter measurement. Min. 5 years experience in a Unix environment, pref. in a consultancy role. Strong IBM pSeries, AIX, KSH Scripting, DNS, TCP/IP skills. High level of Unix skills, particularly with AIX, and preferably IBM CATE certified. Excellent trouble shooting and problem solving skills. Degree/Technical certification in Computer Science or related field. Technically you will be proficient in Unix, preferably AIX but other types of Unix would also be considered - particularly HP-UX or Solaris. You must have experience with project management, workshop facilitation, change control, issue and risk management and project reporting. You must have at least 5 years experience in implementing technical projects and must be focused on implementation and delivery along with possessing excellent team and communication skills. No relocation/expenses paid.
