ÂJob PurposeÔ âResponsible to the Bridges and Structures Assessment Group Leader for the management of the Bridges and Structures Assessment Team undertaking Safe Load Capacity assessments as required by the Alliance Civil Contract.Ô ÂPosition in organisationÔ â Ô ÂMain AccountabilitiesÔ â·ÔAccountable to the Bridges and Structures Assessment Group Leader for safe delivery of compliant assessment reports to agreed programme and budget. ·ÔRepresenting the Bridges and Structures Group Leader for Assessment related issues. ·ÔOverall Management of the Assessment Team to ensure optimum use of resources in data collection, site inspections, calculations and report writing. ·ÔAccountable to the Assessment Group Leader for minimising referrals of Principal Inspection Reports, AIP’s and Assessment Reports. ·ÔResponsible for liaison with Technical Engineering team for resolution of technical issues. ·ÔTechnical leadership with respect to Assessment related activities ·ÔCompliance with LUL Standards and Alliance Procedures. ·ÔEncourage the implementation of best practice where appropriate. ·ÔPromote appropriate “Alliance culture” attitudes and behaviours, in the Assessment Team, necessary to deliver the Bridges and Structures contribution to the Civils Contract. ·ÔActively encourage and support proposals for challenging inappropriate Standards and Procedures. ·ÔProvide support and mentoring to the other members of the Assessment Section where appropriate. ·ÔResolution of Assessment Section staffing issues (Managerial and Technical). ·ÔIdentification of appropriate training needs within the team ·ÔSets targets and undertakes Performance and Development Reviews (PDRs) for Assessment Team members.Ô ÂMain Working RelationshipsÔ Internal â·ÔBridges and Structures Assessment Manager ·ÔBridges and Structures Assessment Group Leader ·ÔOther Bridges and Structures Team Leaders within Group and within other Groups ·ÔBridges and Structures Chief Engineer (and representatives) ÂExternal â·ÔMRSSL and MRBCV Asset Engineers ·ÔAlliance support contractors (Site Investigations etc) ·ÔLocal Authorities, Statutory UtilitiesÔ ÂKey Decisions Made by the RoleÔ â·ÔAuthority to undertake interviews (in conjunction with an HR Representative) of Assessment staff, within agreed organisational structure, on behalf of the Bridges and Structures Assessment Group Leader.Ô ÂCritical Experience. Know-How and Qualifications required to undertake the roleÔ Mandatory: â·ÔChartered Engineer CEng MICE or MIStructE ·Ô5 years relevant railway Assessment/Design experience ·ÔLUL Entry Permit (On job training given) ·ÔFire Safety Training (On job training given) ÌWhere these criteria cannot be fully met, exceptional candidates may be appointed with the agreement of the Bridges and Structures Chief Engineer. ÂìDesirable: â·ÔLUL Railway engineering experience ·ÔKnowledge of LUL Standards and procedures ·ÔKnowledge of the Alliance Civil Contract (SSL) ·ÔLUL Track Accustomed certification (On job training given, subject to passing medical criteria for sight and hearing)Ô ÂPersonal Characteristics RequiredÔ â·ÔAnalytical Thinking ·ÔConcern for Order and Quality ·ÔAchievement Orientation ·ÔGood written and oral communicationÔ ÂAny Special Requirements Required (i.e. Non-Standard Hours or Travel)Ô â·ÔNeed for occasional night or weekend working ·ÔNeed for occasional work on or about the LUL and Network Rail tracksÔ ÂSafetyÔ General Safety Accountabilities: âThe jobholder must be committed to the Alliances General Safety Policy Statement and any related safety programmes.
