Senior Buyer, Sussex, metalwork, vendor selection, MRP, cost analysis, volume planning, purchasing
Undertaking a leadership role to qualify new, critical sources of supply and develop new critical supply sources where current suppliers are inadequate. Manage supplier relationships, and registration of suppliers. May develop guidelines/procedures on vendor selection consistent with global sourcing strategies.
Negotiating pricing and contractual terms with critical suppliers. Works with accounts payable to reconcile problem invoices.
Developing and executing a corrective action plan for critical suppliers not meeting performance expectations. Confers with suppliers and analyzes suppliers? operations to determine factors that affect prices and determines lowest cost consistent with quality, reliability, and ability to meet required schedules.
Maintain the inventory in the MRP Manufacturing System, adjusting safety stock and minimum quantities as required. Takes appropriate action to resolve inventory problems by analyzing material shortage reports as well as excess inventory reports.
Performs cost analysis and volume planning for major commodities. May recommend cost saving proposals including make-versus-buy analysis.Works closely with manufacturing and engineering departments to obtain necessary technical information to evaluate proposals in a timely manner.
Plays an integral role regarding sourcing decisions during all phases of new product development consistent with global sourcing strategies.
Must have previous experience of purchasing, ideally in a similar position / industry. A proven track record of identifying and managing critical source suppliers.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills to effectively deal with vendors and co-workers alike. Must have the ability to write effective reports and analyse data.
Ability to make practical decisions without appreciable direction or advance preparation. Must be able to demonstrate analytical and problem solving skills, with the ability to organize and prioritize work activities, managing multiple projects simultaneously.
Must be computer literate and in particular MRP functionality, order processing, spreadsheet software and word processing.
Must be prepared to travel both domestically and internationally. Must be fluent in the English language and any other language abilities are desirable.
