Our client seeks a Principal Mechanical Engineer to design/develop mechanical and electro-mechanical systems using SolidWorks 3D Modelling / 2D Drafting. Also to commission, conduct development and support qualification tests/trials of equipment (on/off-site), design/specify test equipment. Analyse mechanical systems/components using hand calculations, FEA (Strand, SDRC I-Deas, CosmosWorks, Spreadsheets etc). Evaluate risks using FMEA, FEM, design reviews and mitigate using development tests. Prepare documentation (BOM, drawings, change notes, technical reports, test specs) for systems/sub-assemblies for internal/external use. Mechanical design solutions considering full lifecycle of products. Monitor product cost/mass progression during development. Prepare/give technical presentations. You have an HND in Mechanical Engineering (2:1 Degree or Higher Degree MSc / Chartered Engineer status with Institute of Mechanical Engineers desirable). Apprenticeship in Aerospace, Automotive, Rail or Specialised Machine Industries. Successful applicants will be required to be security cleared prior to appointment. Practising Mechanical Engineer using 3D design tools to design systems/components. Knowledge of designing products subjected to harsh environmental loads/conditions, good understanding of mechanical fundamentals (stress/strain relationships, formulae for beams, plates, springs, fastener selection). Analyse mechanical systems/structures, using mathematical/empirical techniques, performing tests on samples using FEA tools. Able to select materials/finishes. Background providing ability to understand all aspects of packaging electronics (PCB designs, thermal management, EMC management, reliability, maintainability, unit cost etc). Your appreciation of electronics gives the ability to work with non-mechanical engineers to achieve cost effective designs. Used programme management techniques (networks, PERT, Gantt charts).
