RESPONSIBILITIES
Liaise with internal groups and key stakeholders to identify Company system requirements.
Organise the Assurance Environmental Department resources and specialised technical support in order to deliver identified programmes.
Assist in abnormal event actions and investigations.
Provide technical auditing support to the Corporate Audit Manager and Audit teams.
Providing leadership and technical skills to develop and manage seven members of the Assurance Environmental Department team, ensuring their continuing professional and personal development and the delivery of tasks and projects assigned to them.
Responsible for ensuring that, wherever possible, all the department's team members received opportunities for personal and professional development arising out of any tasks being managed by the post holder.
Identify and implement succession planning.
To deputise for the Head of Environment when requested to do so.
QUALIFICATIONS
Degree
Knowledge of the requirements of ISO 14001
Knowledge of UK environmental legislation, standards and guidelines and those systems that exist to enable industry to comply with these.
Knowledge of environmental auditing techniques
Knowledge of nuclear science and technology
EXPERIENCE
Several years’ relevant experience.
Expertise in the delivery of Environmental Management Systems.
SKILLS
Excellent scientific and technical skills.
Excellent communication skills, written and oral, suitable for communicating with and influencing people ranging from plant operators to Directors, whether as individuals or in a group environment.
Ability to effectively manage team members ensuring their personal and professional development.
Ability to promote effective team working.
Ability to work independently and to generate and plan own programmes.
Ability to meet deadlines.
Ability to manage team members, budget and tasks to support the requirements of the internal and external customer and to ensure team and individual development.
To demonstrate significant numerical, written and information management skills.
The ability to use recognised tools and methodologies in the assessment of environmental risk and impact.
Computer literacy particularly in the use of proprietary office software packages.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Membership of IEMA or similar preferred
Chartered Environmentalist/Engineer preferred
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
Manage all aspects for the Company Environmental Management System and to ensure continued accreditation to ISO14001 including the authority for various supporting documents.
Manage all interactions with the Corporate Audit Program.
Manage all aspects of the Department's business including budgets, periodic outurns, provision of information to resource planning issues as required.
Manage and develop the 'Provide Environmental Services' process - part of the Company Management System.
Provide project management and Quality systems to the department.
