DISCIPLINE Engineering - Mechanical
Design Engineer responsible, as part of a team, for the design and development of boost gas systems for nuclear warheads.
RESPONSIBILITIES
To understand and behave responsibly with regard to the Company’s Environment, Health, Safety, Security and Quality Standards
QUALIFICATIONS
Honours degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline or HNC/HND with appropriate design and development experience, ideally with Chartered Engineer status
KNOWLEDGE
Wide knowledge of engineering design including:
Design methodology (the design sequence from specification to manufacture, use of check lists etc.); Materials; Stress Analysis; Standard Components; Computer Aided methods (especially CAD); Dynamics; Joining methods; Costing.
Basic knowledge of project management.
EXPERIENCE
Ideally completed at least one successful design and development project.
SKILLS
Ability to produce creative designs and make informed design decisions.
Ability to organize and motivate other staff.
Able to communicate clearly orally and in writing
Computer literate
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Prepared to travel overseas
Prepared to work in R/A environment
DV(A) security clearance
BEHAVIOURS
Self motivated but able to work as part of a team.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
To help develop designs of gas systems for possible future warheads. This may include design and development, with some element of research, of gas system components.
To assist with the planning and implementation of a new gas systems laboratory.
To assist with computer modelling associated with gas system operation
