<b>AWE awards major Design House contract to Atkins</b> <br><p>AWE plc (the Atomic Weapons Establishment) has appointed Atkins as a Design House, to undertake design services in support of the ongoing programme of modernisation and refurbishment at the AWE sites in Berkshire. The significant appointment consolidates Atkins’ position as one of the country’s leading designers of complex facilities at nuclear-licensed sites. </p>Work in support of the programme has started and it is envisaged that the Design House organisation will expand progressively to an estimated 300 designers, double the current number of Atkins’ personnel working with AWE.</p> </p>The appointment will see Atkins deploy a full range of multi-disciplinary skills including nuclear, civil, mechanical
