My Client, a lab equipment distributor and manufacturer, are a long established and profitable company. Their products are sold and used extensively through out the UK and world wide through various distribution partners. They now seek a Development Manager, a new permanent position for this business, based at their site in Cambridge.
As the development manager you will lead the development team and deliver successful projects on time and within budget. Development of new and existing products will be your passion. Your team will be multi-disciplinary consisting of R&D personnel, manufacturing, technical support and sales and marketing. You will be adaptable enough to get involved in the detail work of each discipline, learning new skills if required and use your rapport building skills and leadership qualities to lead development as a whole. Your responsibility with be for cradle to grave development, and you will report successes and failures to the Group Technical Director.
Presentation and influencing skills will be necessary for you to lead your team and to ensure your objectives are clearly specified, agreed and understood by all stakeholders and participants and are completed in accordance with internal quality standards. Leadership skills will be paramount as the team will feed from you passion, professionalism and enthusiasm to achieve the goals you set. A major part of this role will be cost reduction, materials / resource planning and the use of Design for Manufacture (DFMA) techniques. These operations will help you achieve the overall objective of a timely and cost efficient completed project.
We would be keen to hear from people with some or all of the following skills;
- Mechanical engineering
- Mechanical design
- Design for manufacture
- ISO 9001:2000 or ISO 13485:2003
- CE marking, WEEE / RoHs
- Project management software experience
- Good attention to detail (a completer / finisher)
- Desire to learn the companies' products and business inside and out
- Decisive, logical, driven and consistent
- A professional qualification would be expected, HND or better in a relevant subject
