Part of one of the world's largest metal producers, Our Client is also the leader in the UK steel processing and distribution sector. They have unrivalled product, processing and technical resources that enable the Client to provide innovative material solutions to their diverse customer base industry-wide.
Their continued success has led to the requirement for a Production Manager.
Accountabilities
* Ensure that operations are conducted in manner which fully complies with health and safety, quality, environmental and corporate policies.
* Actively contribute to the development of health and safety systems and behaviour on site.
* Produce operating plans in the form of daily schedules that include processing (internal), distribution and maintenance requirements necessary to satisfy both current and projected customer demands at lowest cost.
* Using lean manufacturing techniques drive continuous improvement at the site.
* Ensure that effective communication takes place between the commercial and operational functions to align customer demands with operating capability.
* Liase with Inventory/Sales team to ensure volume of stock and WIP does not exceed agreed maximum levels while being sufficient to satisfy both productivity and current and projected customer demand.
* Where appropriate help to recruit, select, motivate, train and develop the team, managing its performance and reward to maintain an effective workforce capable of meeting its current and projected objectives as required.
* Manage distribution and liase with sales to ensure that customer deliveries are effected on time, at least cost and in accordance with the production plan.
* Manage contractor control (with Team Leader and Engineer) especially maintenance, preventative maintenance and repairs.
* Contribute to site security (with Team Leader) and asset protection so as to limit liability and minimising costs.
Qualifications & Experience
* The position requires an effective supervisor with substantial experience in service centre or manufacturing activities.
* Ability to demonstrate strong communication, leadership and organisational skills.
* Relevant academic qualifications or vocational skills could include: leadership training, continuous improvement, , problem solving and relevant technical experience.
* The ability to work under pressure and to tight timescales is important – while this role requires a strong individual, they must be capable of managing teams through delegating objectives and monitoring performance.
