Commercial Underwriter
London, Aldgate EC3N
£20,000 - £30,000 + company pension and share options

Listen to your customers, communicate the benefits of your products and be efficient in the way you deliver your service. They are looking to recruit a Commercial Underwriter.
The role:
The purpose of this role is to underwrite commercial risks from a designated panel of intermediaries within agreed authority levels, to achieve profitable growth in line with Company and branch objectives.
As Commercial Underwriter, you will:
- Underwrite new and existing business profitability, accurately and in line with established Underwriting practice.
- Supply underwriting support to Account Managers as required.
- Maintain and develop business relationships with intermediaries.
- Produce timely and accurate documentation.
- Actively encourage generation of profitable new business.
- Respond to customers requests for information.
- Promote the business through a polite, helpful and willing attitude to all customers and colleagues – external and internal.
- Assist and coach colleagues with technical and procedural aspects of underwriting, as required.
Skills, knowledge and behaviour:
1. Progression towards ACII.
2. ‘A' Level or equivalent education.
3. Interpersonal/communication/sales/negotiation skills.
4. Technical product knowledge.
5. PC/mainframe systems/keyboard skills.
6. Team focused.
7. Effective time management skills.
8. Experience of Commercial Underwriting.
9. Previous experience of working within a commercial insurance environment and Commercial Underwriting a requirement.
10. Awareness of market knowledge and trading issues.
11. Understanding how this role relates to other Area functions.
12. Awareness of service standards and business processes for the role.
