Our Client is an established Information Technology group specialising in delivering bespoke network services to large organisations and other service providers in the UK and abroad. They are looking to recruit a Network Operations Centre Systems Engineer to work from their Basingstoke offices.
The position of NOC Systems Engineer reports to the Head of Network Operations Centre. This position is responsible for network and management design, acting as design authority for specific solutions in the areas of expertise, and is also responsible for handling escalated faults in support of the NOC. The NOC Systems Engineer works alongside the existing NOC Systems Engineers responsible for Transmission, IP and Netcool, but whilst having defined responsibilities, does not specialise by function, and is responsible for aspects of both transmission and IP networks.
Role and Responsibility
- Implementation, support and ownership of Marconi MV36 and MV38 platforms, and responsible for the migration from EMOS
- Ownership of operation and support of IP NMS (supporting management of all current customer solutions) and IP LCR management solutions
- Responsibility for Tanman services
- Ownership of design, implementation and support of DSL backup solution
- Ownership of customer-sited management solutions
- Responsibility for Corporate LAN support
- Design, costing, testing and implementation of customer network management solutions including attendance at design reviews and customer meetings.
- Evaluation of new products, involving liaison with vendors to establish whether new management platforms will be beneficial to our client. Once new potential hardware and software is identified, responsible for performing testing to ensure the equipment meets the relevant NOC standards at lowest cost. Testing is to be backed up with documented test procedures, results and deployment plans where required
- Second-line support for the NOC
- Ownership and resolution of escalated faults and Remedy calls allocated by the NOC, and is on the fault management (technical) escalation path
- Liaison with third party support organisations with respect to fault resolution and provision of new services.
- Verification/validation of support documentation
- Secondary responsibility for nominated management platforms and network (in support of other NOC SE's)
- Provide training on equipment and management for NOC and other staff
- Production of internal management reports
- Maintain professional expertise by attending in-house and external training courses through the review of published literature
- Expected to give out-of-hours support on a “general availability” basis
Skill and Qualifications
An engineering degree or a closely related field or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience is required. A minimum of 3 years professional experience of transmission and IP networks, working knowledge of all our client's core networks, and a knowledge of management systems is necessary. Ability to give clear, concise presentations, and produce accurate documentation and reports.
