Major Financial seek Lead SQL Server DBA. You will be expected to manage a small team of DBA specialists, accountable for the support and maintenance of the database environment and ensuring that all technical issues relating to the databases are resolved promptly. Responsibilities include
• Install, configure and upgrade SQL Server software
• Participation in release / change management
• Backup, archiving, recovery and DR
• Day to day management of disk space, fragmentation, statistics and database consistency
• Implement, maintain and audit security procedures
• Performance management, tuning and pro-active monitoring
• Capacity planning
• Create and maintain support documentation and standards
As manager of the DBA team, you must have experience of the best practice in database administration and ITIL qualifications would be an advantage. Must have experience of working in a mission critical, 24*7 environment (preferably financial) supporting multiple, e.g. 40-50, database servers. You should have at least 5 years high-level technical experience, which should include significant Microsoft SQL Server experience (Additional Oracle or DB2 experience a plus). As well as having managerial skills it is also imperative you have a technical hands-on ability with experience in query tuning and SQL database performance tuning. You should possess strong leadership capabilities especially during problem/crisis situations and be a persuasive communicator with excellent influencing skills and the ability to command respect within your technical peer group.
