As a global supplier of electrical and mechanical equipment to the Container Glass Industry, our client uses its expertise and innovations in the field of Transfers Units, Lehr Loaders and Drive Systems. Due to expansion a vacancy has arisen for a Purchasing Engineer to join their company in York. Reporting to the Operations Director, you will be responsible for improving all aspects of the Supply Chain.
The role requires the successful candidate to occasionally visit supplier's sites locally and worldwide. Part of the role is also to provide technical assistance to suppliers that require clarification with technical drawings or material specifications. It is essential for this reason that you have a driving licence and valid passport. You will be a good communicator on all levels to deal with any supply chain queries as and when they arise. You will also possess good project management skills to assist in the supply and specification of components to customer orders.
Working well in a team and on your own, you will write reports and carry out product costing exercises to assist the sales department to quote for customer special orders which may likely include labour hours for assembly time as well as in-house machining estimations and bought in component costs.
Competence with understanding engineering drawings is essential. You must have a good understanding of different materials, manufacturing methods, be an excellent communicator and self motivated. A person with previous experience in a similar role is preferred and a suitable qualification in purchasing and/or technical discipline (apprenticeship/ONC/HNC/Degree) is desirable.
