Mechanical Design Engineer, avon, finite element, modelling, management,
Job purpose:
. To undertake and manage research programmes with the aim of developing technology and understanding to raise the level of technical product and application design capability.
. To manage the R and D function within the Technical organisation
. To provide general technical support to the design teams
Main responsibilities:
1. To devise and undertake programmes to further develop:
- Detailed understanding of product performance in isolation and installed in key application types
- Understanding of the effect of variables on product performance
- Capability of the product in key applications
- Ability to specify product for more demanding applications
Typically the above will be progressed via performance modelling and practical testing with projects identified and prioritised in reference to strategic objectives.
2. To incorporate the results into design tools to support new product and application development by the wider team.
3. To manage agreed research projects, undertaking work in person, through outside research organisations and utilising the wider resources of the technical team.
4. To build technical?credibility? with customers, contacts and distributors/agents, participating in relevant internal/external meetings and training programs.
Main attributes required:
.. Mechanical Engineering degree
.. Research project experience management and hands on
.. Familiarity with application FEA and computer modeling techniques
.. Ability to devise test programmes to increase understanding and to apply knowledge gained into practical technology advancements
.. Personal presence to lead and organise research projects
.. Able to undertake high level technical discussion internally and externally with customers and suppliers
.. Available for occasional overseas travel
