An exciting opportunity has arisen for a industry professional Cost Engineer to join a small and highly qualified team responsible for the decommissioning of one of the UK's premier Nuclear research facilities. For this role the salary is £negotiable dependant on experience and is commutable from Reading, Oxford, Swindon, Bicester, Aylesbury, High Wycombe and Basingstoke.
This key role will see you take responsibility for a team of experts tasked with the handling and cleanup of currently operational buildings that have been involved in the forefront of nuclear science since the mid 1940's.
As the Lead Cost Engineer you will be responsible for managing, guiding and training all Cost Engineers. The position requires a thorough understanding of cost estimating, site procedures and the ability to assist Cost Engineers as required. Additionally, the position requires a good understanding of project controls applications and earned value techniques as applied to project management and performance reporting.
The main responsibilities of the job include:
Manage the assembly of cost estimates.
Determine the appropriate level of resources required to produce sufficiently robust estimates.
The project management and deployment of estimating resources and determining priorities in support of baseline development and performance monitoring.
Manage monthly project performance development activities and reporting functions from a cost perspective (ETC estimates, EAC estimates and ACWP reports).
Train and support Cost Engineering staff in the preparation of project ETC estimates and EAC estimates for project reporting purposes.
Issue instruction / corrective actions in order to improve the quality of estimates.
Ensure that all planned costs are correctly attributed to the Company Work Breakdown Structure (CWBS) and the Programme Summary Work Breakdown Structure (PSWBS).
Travelling to the site may be required from time to time.
Desirable Aptitude and Experience:
An engineering or science qualification in a technical discipline, ideally qualified to degree level but HND as a minimum
Technical experience in a nuclear/chemical/industrial environment
Knowledge and experience of project planning methodologies and earned value techniques
Proficient IT operator with word, database and spreadsheet skills and experience in software and document systems development
