Environmental Health and Safety Advisor, Northants, EHS, ISO14001, OHSAS18001
Responsible for promoting, maintaining and developing the site Health & Safety and Environmental Management Systems. This includes:
Planning, implementing, monitoring, auditing and reviewing the H&S and Environmental policies and procedures, including injury and waste reduction programmes.
Driving continual improvement programmes to ensure achievement of H&S and Environmental Objectives and Targets.
Maintenance of the PPC Authorisation and ISO14001 Registration.
The post-holder is expected to work closely with external regulatory agencies to maintain legal compliance, whilst maintaining an up-to-date knowledge of company EHS standards and of relevant UK legislation. He/she will help to develop the EHS management system in line with these requirements, and will assist staff in complying with their EHS obligations by providing training and advice on EHS matters. He/she will assist managers to implement EHS solutions and will carry out audits and inspections to verify that systems are effective.
Specific duties will include:
Developing and implementing Improvement Programmes as required by the Environment Agency and other regulatory authorities, and conducting projects as may be required to ensure on-going compliance with emerging environmental legislation.
Ensuring that air soil and water sampling to meet Environment Agency, ISO 14001 and Due Diligence requirements is completed to plan.
Investigation and reporting of accidents, incidents and non-compliances.
Data collection and preparation of reports to ensure compliance with PPC Authorisation requirements.
Ensuring that effective emergency preparedness and response procedures are maintained, in particular pro-active involvement with and support for the Emergency Response Team.
Monitoring the procurement, storage and use of chemicals and work equipment.
Conducting and advising on and reviewing Risk Assessments including those for
- General risks
- COSHH
- DSE
-Manual Handling
Monitoring, assessment and control of contractors and subcontractors.
Advising on EHS aspects of new equipment and modifications to existing plant and processes.
Advising on Ergonomics issues
Ensuring compliance with Ionising Radiation Regulations
Selection and assessment of Personal Protective Equipment
Identification and fulfilment of training needs.
Administration, delivery and recording of EHS training
Ensuring that effective Spillage Control procedures are maintained
Ensuring effectiveness of waste management procedures
Data collection and maintenance of active and reactive metrics and the preparation of management reports.
Requirements:
A degree or equivalent in Occupational Safety & Health or a science graduate (or equivalent) with NEBOSH Diploma in Occupational Safety & Health or
Environmental qualification at the level of the NEBOSH Specialist Diploma in Environmental Management or equivalent.
Membership of I.E.M.A. And/or I.O.S.H. Would be an advantage.
Previous experience of working within an EHS team in a high technology manufacturing environment is essential.
The following practical experience would be an advantage:
ISO14001, OHSAS 18001, HSG65 or similar EHS Management Systems.
EHS auditing and performance monitoring techniques.
Environmental monitoring, sampling and analytical techniques for emissions to air, soil and water.
