Electronics Design Engineer, Hardware Design Engineer
£33,000 - £36,000 DoE + profit and performance related bonus
Our client is currently looking to fill a vacancy for a Hardware Design Engineer at its North of England design office in Barrow-in-Furness.
The successful candidate will have both analogue and digital hardware design skills and join a small team of experienced hardware and software design engineers. You will be given responsibility for one or more hardware design projects from initial design specification to customer acceptance and delivery of the equipment.
Subsequent work will be in new product development, to continue expansion of the company's product portfolio, and in bespoke design to meet customers' specific requirements. The role will involve some interfacing with customers on design related issues, involving small amounts of travel and short periods of working on customers' sites and at Head Office, within the UK.
The essential core skills required for consideration for this role are:
- Experience of analogue/digital equipment design
- Demonstrable experience and success in implementation of analogue circuit designs
- Demonstrable experience of design with micro-controllers and PCI based architectures
- Experience of VHDL based FPGA design for application in electronic equipment
- Experience of FPGA Design flow
- Experience of schematic capture tools
In addition to the core skills described above, demonstrable experience of any of the following supplementary skills will also be of value and taken into consideration:
- Real Time Embedded software development in C, C++
- Full life-cycle development experience
- Experience with Board Layout design tools
- Working within an ISO9000 quality environment
- Experience of developing equipment for military applications
- An innovative approach to design
- Excellent problem solving skills
- A desire to keep up to date with the latest technology
You will have a solid academic background with a good degree in Electronic Engineering or other related discipline, and be creative in solving problems and finding design solutions.
To make a real contribution to the design team we expect you to be a self-motivated person capable of working under pressure, have a good analytical mind and able to demonstrate design skills with a proven track record of quality hardware development.
You will be expected to be able to work equally well either as part of a team, or working unsupervised on one-person projects. You will also be expected to be responsible for the quality of your designs and their documentation, adhering to the company Quality Procedures under the company's ISO 9000 accredited system.
Our client is able to offer a comprehensive package of salary and benefits. Starting salary will be in the range of £33,000 - £36,000 depending on experience. Additionally the company pays a profit and performance related bonus.
A company pension scheme also exists providing multiple levels of company contribution on the employees behalf. Finally, a salary related life insurance scheme is also in place. The annual holiday entitlement is 24 days plus Bank Holidays. Working hours are 37.5 hours per week. The company operates an informal flexi-time system and encourages a relaxed working environment and dress code. All employees share permanent access to the Internet.
