Unix Support Specialist
Middlesex, Staines

Reporting to the Unix Team Leader within the Operations Department you will be responsible for delivering a highly customer-focused support service within a web and enterprise infrastructure based environment.
Role:
* Providing resolution of incident tickets and maintaining high availability through proactive measures.
* Providing problem management and resolution of repeat incidents.
* Resolving complex technical issues escalated by other departments.
* Ensuring clients & partners are regularly updated on the current status of issues.
* Ensure that knowledge is retained through documentation of procedures and knowledge-base articles.
Person:
* Must have excellent customer service and communications skills, and experience of working in a dynamic team environment.
* Solaris Certified System Administrator (SCSA), or Redhat Certified Engineer (RHCE), or equivalent demonstrable knowledge.
* Good understanding of Internet technology and services (particularly Apache although experience of Tomcat, Weblogic, Exim, Mysql etc. would be useful or can be gained in the role)
* Knowledge of backup strategies and systems (preferably Netbackup).
* Ability to build systems (using Jumpstart or Kickstart) and manually configure services (web servers, mtas, app servers etc.)
* Experience in supporting customer-focused environments.
* Good knowledge of TCP/IP.
* Understanding of security issues and ability to read and define firewall rules (Cisco Pix) and load balance (Cisco CSS) configurations beneficial.
* A Bachelor's Degree in a computing-related discipline preferred or equivalent ability and knowledge.
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
* Knowledge and experience of ITIL standards desirable.
* Familiarity of troubleshooting hardware.
