Java Programmer

Our client is a small software technology company specialising in the development and customisation of large-scale vehicle routing systems. They are looking to recruit a Java Programmer.
The role:
Their core system is written in Java and XML, backed by a SQL/Server database, although this is not web-based infrastructure. You will need a flexible approach as you will be expected to work in a variety of programming-related areas, including:
* Java programming
* Business component implementation
* Client customisation
* Operations Research
* Problem solving
They maintain an informal and friendly working environment. They hold high standards and provide strong mentoring aimed at applicants searching either for a junior position or with some industrial experience who are looking to develop further. You will be making a direct contribution to the product from day one.
Key Skills and Experience
They are looking to expand their development team with both recent graduates and applicants with some previous experience in a programming role. Successful candidates will be highly motivated and able to work well within a small team. You should possess:
* Strong programming background, including Java and object-oriented design
* Good degree, ideally in mathematics, computing or engineering (or equivalent)
* Flexible attitude

* Logistics and transport
* Maps and Geographical Information Systems (GIS)
* Mathematical optimisation techniques
* SQL in a client/server environment

Our client is located in the small market-town of Hertford, 25 miles north of London.
