IP Engineer - Network Engineer, Server Support (CCNA, MCP)
London, Vauxhall SW8 5BL
Up to £20 - £22K (Negotiable depending on experience) + 20 working days per annum, increasing by one day per year with the company to a maximum of 25 days per annum 20 days per annum plus + Permanent Health Insurance
Our client has established a strong market presence as an integrated services provider of computer networks, telephone systems, internet access and telecommunications carrier services to SMEs within the M25. They are looking to recruit a IP Engineer - Network Engineer, Server Support (CCNA, MCP).
The role:
The IP team provide support to users of the company's ISP service which ranges from single ADSL connections to management of customer Wide Area Networks and server infrastructure.
They are looking for a person to join their growing team of network engineers and progress towards becoming a professional network engineer by acquiring skill and knowledge in delivering customer network solutions.
The company provides customer support between the hours of 0800-2000. IP engineers will alternate across one of three shifts during weekdays and participate in a roster to be on call at weekends. Additional payments are made for late shifts and weekend cover.
The Challenge
1. Resolving customer problems
2. Monitoring systems and taking corrective action where necessary
3. Updating customers on progress of issues
4. Troubleshooting ADSL, leased line and IP connectivity issues
5. Troubleshooting DNS and email problems
6. Configuring webserver space
7. Configuring new connections and customer routers
Technical skills
The ideal candidate may already have a qualification such as CCNA or MCP but if not will be required to work towards these. All staff are expected to progress through a training program and obtain relevant vendor qualifications. Career progression is supported by relevant external and “on the job” training.
Knowledge of Windows 2000/2003 and/or Unix (FreeBSD) would be of benefit.
Essential Requirements
1. Customer service experience – ideally telephone and remote support knowledge
2. Demonstrable knowledge and interest in network technologies
3. As important as technical skills are a “can-do” attitude, and an ability and willingness to learn and maintain their skill level
4. Occasionally site visits are required for which a current full driving license would be useful
