IT Support Engineer
Cambridge / Saffron Walden
£25,000 - £28,000 DOE
Our client Systems Support are looking for an experienced IT support professional to join their team of technical staff, looking after business clients using Windows PCs.
Windows 2000 and 2003 Server administration experience is essential, including set up, configuration, and administration of Active Directory and maintenance of Exchange services.
The work involves both setting up new Windows servers, migrating and maintaining existing fileservers, anti-virus protection and e-mail systems for business clients with PC and Macintosh computers. PC support skills must be first class and some experience of project management would be helpful. Mac support skills an advantage, but not essential.
Good knowledge of WAN/LAN and backup technologies is also required including router setups, configuring IP services, and troubleshooting VPN connections. There will also be excellent opportunities to learn about Mac OS X and Windows connectivity, especially the integration of Open Directory and Active Directory services.
The role will require you to:
* Make regular visits to provide PC and server support and consultancy services to clients
* Install and configure new desktop, laptop and server hardware and software for business clients – from large corporations to small family firms
* Be able to configure VPN, TCP/IP, DNS, firewalls, switches and routers
* Have a practical understanding of structured cabling, patch panels and wireless networks
* Be able to plan, prioritise and arrange client visits to ensure key projects are delivered within the required timescales
* Help colleagues solve PC problems
* Maintain a broad knowledge of available products and keep abreast of relevant technical developments in the personal computer industry
To fulfil these duties successfully, candidates will need the following desirable characteristics:

A full UK driving licence is required for this role, as you will be travelling regularly to clients' premises. This position is a full-time post, starting as soon as possible to ensure a good handover, and will be based at our client's headquarters near Saffron Walden. Applicants living to the north, especially along the A14, should be aware that the local commute can be very difficult at peak times.
Travel to customers in Cambridge and London, and sometimes to other sites in the UK, will be required.
