Our client specialises in the design and manufacture of a wide range of mechanical and electro-mechanical products for the International Aerospace industry. They currently seek a Technical Author/Illustrator to join their team.
The successful applicant will create new Technical Publications for Operation, Maintenance and Repair of company products for use by the Customer and Repair Centres. This includes text and illustrations. You will also keep the publications up to date and to distribute to holders.
Key responsibilities of the role are to:
- Produce accurate and ‘easy to read' Technical Publication for company products.
- Prepare text and 3D Navigational illustrations, for new publications, and any subsequent revisions using Microsoft Word and Adobe Framemaker + SGML files for text and Itedo Isodraw for illustrations.
- Ensure that publications meet the requirements of the relevant company and customer procedures and specifications.
- Provide copies of publications and revision to operators and customers are required.+
- Maintain liaison with customers, engineers, fitters, drawing office personnel and operators and respond to any queries and requests.
- Convert legacy printed documents to electronic format.
- Prepare content for electronic publication CD-ROMs.
Experience required:
- Engineering/Support Technician background in electro-mechanical field. Some electronics knowledge also desirable.
- Broad experience in Technical Publications within the Aerospace or similar skilled engineering industry desirable (NB. Training can be provided for the right candidate)
- Computer literate – Microsoft Office essential. Framemaker +SGML and Isodraw desirable.
Qualifications required:
- A recognised English language qualification or a demonstrable command of English.
- Degree, HND, HNC in Engineering or equivalent qualification/experience.
You will also have the ability to read and understand Technical Drawings and to translate this information into a usable form for a repair/maintenance technician, along with a demonstrable drive and enthusiasm towards continuous improvement and multi-skilling.
