Purchasing Specialist - My client plays a major role in the European microwave technology market, producing world-class components and subsystems for the radar, communications, defence, aerospace and transportation industries. Products can be found in airborne, ground and naval radar systems; in wireless commercial communications; and in ground-based satellite control systems. The primary purpose of the role is to provide professional procurement service to internal and external customers, with the emphasis on Purchasing. Key tasks will include: Participation in the creation of purchasing strategy in key product segments. Setting up of key contracts. Proactive liaison with suppliers and creation of KPIs and SLAs. Co-ordination of supplier development programme. Management of key issues and recovery plans with suppliers and application of continuous improvement techniques. Identification of new low cost suppliers. Application of upstream procurement practises in support of Design to Cost programmes. Benchmark and improve purchasing performance. Act as deputy for Supply Chain Manager. The ideal candidate will be a business or engineering graduate and graduate member of Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply. With a technical background in a electronic/mechanical environment and 5 years experience in a similar role and within a fast moving short time scale environment. This person will be from a strong commercial background with strong negotiation skills. With the ability to demonstrate good interpersonal skills - teamwork, sharing knowledge, entrepreneurial and customer orientated.
