Our client is the UK arm of one of Europe's largest and most successful IT Services Organisations. The UK is one of the fastest growing and most strategically important markets for the Group, delivering a full range of IT Services to many of the UK's leading organisations. They are looking to recruit a Technical Architect - Permanent/Contract.
The Technical Architect implements a technical framework for providing a high quality Test and Development Environment Management capability and also acts as a technical consultant.
Your responsibilities will be to:
- Define the components that constitute an development or test environment
- Create, maintain and distribute logical and physical environment diagrams for all environments
- Provide input into the Software Configuration Management Strategy for development practices, baseline definition and security
- Create, maintain and distribute the Security Plan for application environments, configuration management and infrastructure
- Provide input into the Environment Delivery Strategy for environment and infrastructure provision
- Define the end-to-end process for the compilation of Configuration Items (CIs) into a Configuration Item Baseline (CIB) and delivery of the CIB into an environment
- Ensure that the development, build and deployment processes are repeatable, traceable, reliable and robust
- Ensure that tools, processes and procedures are adequate to provide a test environment that meets the testing requirements
- Ensure that appropriate test data and the related refresh procedures are in place to fulfil testing requirements as outlined in the Environment Delivery Strategy
- Identify and plan Continuous Improvement work for Environment Management tools, processes and procedures
- Manage Change Requests for the Environment Management tools, processes and procedures
- Design and implement a data repository for storing Configuration Management, Environment and Infrastructure data and make available to the Environment Support Lead and Configuration Management Lead
- Act as a technical consultant within the Environment Management organisation
The following are mandatory skills:
- Configuration Management experience
- Security planning and implementation
- Development and implementation of processes and procedures
- Solid awareness of testing processes, tools and procedures
- Knowledge of and vast experience in full development lifecycle
- Awareness of the structure and components of a test/development environment
- Technical environment skills in two or more of Unix, Oracle, IBM Mainframe, Siebel, Websphere
- Configuration Management experience
In addition, the following desirable skills are beneficial to your application:
- Degree level education, preferably in Computing related discipline (or equivalent)
- Financial Sector experience, preferably Banking
- Clearcase, Endevor
- Mercury Interactive Test Tools
- Effective communicator
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Delivery focussed – values the needs to hit milestones
- Commitment to continuous improvement
- Appreciation of Quality Management
- Strategic thinker
